Michelle Joy is a contemporary First Nations artist of Kaurna, Narungga, and Greek heritage, working on Kaurna Country. Her distinct visual style is deeply rooted in her connection to Country, culture, and the interwoven histories that shape her identity.

Art has guided Michelle on a journey toward forming a cohesive sense of her diverse cultural identity and the connections she holds to both her Kaurna–Narungga and Greek heritage. This journey has offered a deeper understanding of cultural connection and the ways cultural embodiment is formed through our senses.

Through her practice, Michelle reflects on the intergenerational impacts of the Stolen Generation, reconnecting with her once dormant and now growing Kaurna–Narungga roots. She continues to unearth and strengthen this heritage—one that flows deeply within, nurturing connection, resilience, and cultural continuity.

Flowing deep within, nurturing, strengthening & growing stronger.
